Housed within the Department of English, Emory’s Irish Studies Program provides a vital space for the exploration of Ireland's literary and artistic production and the continued political and cultural relevance of this small but mighty nation. We introduce students to leading scholarship on Irish literature, history, and culture from W.B. Yeats and his circle to Seamus Heaney and contemporary Irish poetry. Our program has grown in tandem with the extensive Irish Literary Collections in the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library. Students may also study abroad in Ireland in Belfast, Dublin, or Galway.
"Face to face with her was an education
Of the sort you got across a well-braced gate-
. . . where you could see
Deeper into the country than you expected."
Seamus Heaney, 'Field of Vision.'
